Curtain wall facade and glass roof

SR-SYSTEM

The SR steel profile system is specific for the construction of curtain walls and glass roofs. The steel profiles are equipped with the integrated screw channel technology (groove with dove-tail shape), facilitating the insertion of gaskets and thread-forming screws, without the need to pre-drill the component. The threaded galvanized steel tubular profiles are obtained by means of cold-rolled tubes, galvanized with the Sendzimir process 275 gr / sqm. The transom supports are made of steel/aluminium. As an alternative to this process, the assembly of the profiles can be made by welding. Gaskets are EPDM rubber based. The sealing system is based on the principle of excellent thermal separation between the inside and outside with two levels of sealing/gaskets. The system of external gaskets (EPDM rubber) is maintained uncut on the transoms and cut on the mullions, this detail allows a correct connection of the gaskets’ components. The external caps are in aluminum, with screw connection concealed or on view.

UKEG provides you with support, so that you can get the most out of your building project, both in terms of maximum thermal and acoustic insulation efficiency, design, and aesthetic research. Here below, some references of projects in which the SR system has been used for the curtain wall.

The Fletcher Hotel – Amsterdam (NL)

In the expansion area to the southeast of Amsterdam, known as Amstel III, the large Meibergdreef thoroughfare has been redesigned as a new urban system with the construction of a new hotel being the catalyser, next to the A2 motorway route. In fact, this new building marks the entrance to Amsterdam for whoever is arriving from the south. The tower block is 60 meters tall, with a compact layout just 24 meters in diameter, built from a mixed construction of reinforced concrete and metal structural work. The planning aim was to create a building that did not face any particular direction, but offered a 360° opening towards the city of Amsterdam. Hence the choice for a circular plan, with a central core housing the lifts, stairs and service spaces, with maximum exploitation of the available space and the views of the 120 rooms. The façade is entirely glazed, formed of two independent layers, both distinguished by circular patterns, graphic designs that offer shade and a sky-blue colour that gives a delightful play to the reflections of the sky and creates an illusion of greater depth to the façade. In fact, after dusk the Fletcher Hotel tower lights up line an enormous lantern.

Dock en Seine – Paris (F)

This area, which was formerly a suburb and has now become part of the centre of Paris, has always housed the warehouses, stores and work areas necessary for the factories, which were able to profit from the barges sailing down the river Seine and, later, the railway nearby, which formed an important and historic trading post for supplies and shipments. The historic building is on three storeys, and was designed as a series of four pavilions. Inspired by the flowing Seine and the walks along the riverbanks, the new project converts the industrial building, leaving the traces of the concrete structure, and includes a lightweight steel and glass web, known as a “plug-over”. The idea is to create a new “dress” to protect the previous reinforced concrete structure and, at the same time, house technological spaces in the folds of this unusual new “fabric” and strengthen the links between the pedestrian tracks that lead to the panoramic roof terrace. Inside, the large windows with steel frames and glass curtain walls are detached from the original structure, giving an overall view of the historic building. The steel frames, with their very strong and narrow sections, mean that very large openings can be achieved enhancing the transparency of the glass and the filigree supporting frame.
